While police has set the goal to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents and burglaries for 2008, it is calling for more recruits.
Inspector Tere Patia says the department wants up to 10 new recruits to be trained within a ten weeks period. He said the recruits will be trained for either the frontline or for the maritime divisions.
Meanwhile Detective Senior Sergeant Areumu Ingaua reports that less motor vehicle accidents occurred in the latter part of last year and the trend continued up to the present.
He attributed the decrease to the "no" warning policy and the urgency police now takes to deal with crashes.
In regards to burglaries Ingaua said again "urgency is the name of the game. We get there as soon as there is a report someone has been burgled."
He also said that there is now a combined effort by all police divisions to deal with burlaries.
Ingaua is also confident that the trend will continue as officers become more and more concerned about keeping the community burglar free.
Police would also like to commend the general public for their continued cooperation.
